Are You A Do-er or a Dreamer? Or Both?
Anyone who wants to start a business and be self-employed has some level of dreamer in them. It usually takes a “thinking outside of the box” personality to step out and be your own boss. There can be very little security in starting a business, and often it’s the dreams that keep us going.
But, here’s the thing – it also takes a lot of self-confidence, self-discipline, and self-motivation to start a business. So, you can’t be JUST a dreamer. If you only have dreams, you’ll stay stuck in the dreaming phase, and the clouds are not the best place to make money and find success – unless you are flying planes for a living.
It was just a few years ago that I realized the MOST successful business owners are do-ers AND dreamers. It’s not enough to have just one attribute. Now, you CAN lean one direction more than the other, but you’ll need to both be able to dream, and then follow through with doing.
Personally, as a multi-passionate business owner (thanks Marie Forleo), I switch back and forth between the dreaming and do-ing often. Sometimes multiple times a day! The dreaming keeps me going when things start to feel mundane. The do-ing keeps the money rolling in until the next dream pops up.
So, what are you? A dreamer? A do-er? Both?
