What’s Working Wednesday: When Your Clients Tell You What To Create Next
For the last few years, some version of the following question has landed in my inbox, my DMs, or in conversation with clients more times than I can count:
“Will you just teach me Canva?”
And every single time, I’ve said some version of, “Someday, I’d really love to do that.” Then I’d go back to client work, deadlines, my own to-do list, and someday quietly slipped further down the list. I’ve tried a few times to get something put together, but my capacity was always lacking, and it just stayed as a “someday” plan.
But, here’s the thing I’ve learned about myself over almost 30 years of doing this work: I’m a dreamer… and a do-er, and if I get asked for the same thing more than once, I’m going to NEED to do that! I often build things in my mind long before they’re fully formed, and those “someday” ideas percolate in my mind until I put a date on them and tell people it’s happening. Over the last couple of weeks after a few more of those “could you teach me” kind of conversations, it was finally time!
Why this question keeps coming up
I don’t think everyone needs or wants to become a graphic designer. I think this request is about so many of my clients, makers, shop owners, creatives building something of their own, sitting down to design a graphic and suddenly feeling like they’re back in school, unsure of the “right” answer. What size. What font. Whether it looks professional enough to put their name on it. There is an uncertainty, a desire for someone to walk along-side them, and to speed up the process.

I see it in the same handful of questions, over and over:
- “What size should I even use for this?”
- “How do I keep my branding consistent?”
- “Is there a way to do this without starting from scratch every time?”
None of those are silly questions. They’re the right questions but they just didn’t have anywhere to go…until now. And I believe every creative business owner deserves to understand simple tools that help them spend less time wrestling with graphics and more time doing the work they actually love.
What I’m building
So… on July 31st, I’m hosting a live workshop called The Creative Business Canva Masterclass, built specifically to start answering the questions I’ve been getting asked for years. We’re going to sit down together in a live Zoom call and actually build things! Not just talk about design in theory, but work with real, practical tools that trip people up every time they open Canva.
It’s the class I wish I could’ve handed every person who’s ever asked me this question. Consider it finally, officially, “someday.”

I HOPE YOU’LL JOIN ME
If you’ve been dreaming about feeling more confident in your own design tools, and would like to learn a few tools and skills you can use over and over again, this class is for YOU. On July 31st, I’d love for you to be in the room (virtually) learning with other creatives just like you. If you’d like to read more about the class, you can click on over HERE, or if you are ready right now, you can grab your spot for the Canva Masterclass here
And just as a P.S.
I really want to encourage you to pay attention to the questions your clients or customers ask over and over. Those repeated questions may be pointing you toward your next product, service, workshop, or even an entirely new direction for your business.
You might not have the capacity to pursue it today. Health, family responsibilities, work, or life in general may mean it’s something for a future season. And that’s okay.
Don’t dismiss those ideas just because the timing isn’t right. Write them down. Keep a running list. When the season changes, you may already have a collection of opportunities waiting for you, because your audience has been telling you exactly what they need.
